32,000 sqft | Shreveport, LA | 2000
The setting is an 8-acre parcel on Old River adjacent to one of the most popular parks in the city. The building is oriented due north to face the adjoining residential area, with its mass curtailed by faceting the facade into more than 20 planes and by the saw tooth foot print. Entry points are framed with a combination of hip and gable roof projections. The twenty-two foot wide arched windows that zigzag along the rear of the library provide soothing places for patrons to curl up with a good book while taking advantage of the views of Old River and the park beyond.
