SML Support Services Center

33,945 reno + 5,715 new sqft | Shreveport, LA | 2015

As the new home to the multi-faceted center of a library system supporting 21 branches and a mobile library, this former grocery store presented SGB with the challenge of renovating a CMU and steel framed building with no exterior windows and a single, North-facing, public façade featuring a deep porch for cart storage. In addition to providing for all of the owners complex systematic program needs, SGB Architects sought to bring a sense of the exterior environment to the sea of workspaces by introducing daylight from thru-roof solar tubes and lining the corridors with nature murals. By raising the front entrance and carving floor-to-ceiling openings in the North wall, the buildings facade is revitalized to inspire its workforce and the community.
