St Clair Middle School

127,500 sqft | St. Clair, Michigan | 2000

Serving as design architect and programmer for Kingscott Architects of Kalamazoo, Michigan, SGB’s plan is organized around a two story central spine and commons which provides the main path of movement through the school and creates ample space for student gathering.  The commons also accommodates crowds for after school events in the gym and cafeteria. Classroom and Exploratory areas are subdivided into villages of 8 to 11 classrooms each with its own special identity. Each classroom village creates a separate quiet environment and are connected through the commons to the media center, cafeteria, gym and administrative functions.
