210 units over 26.54 acres | Waveland, MS | 2009-2015
On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina made a devastating sweep along the Gulf Coast. The Bay Waveland Housing Authority lost all 176 public housing units. In response to this damage, the Housing Authority turned to SGB Architects to provide a new mixed income housing plan that replaces the ravaged communities and builds affordable living units to meet the needs of working low and moderate income families throughout Hancock County. The new communities of Bay Pines (2011), Oak Haven (2011), and Camille Court (2016) are built with Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) construction to withstand any future hurricanes and provide outstanding energy efficiency. Each community is designed in the “Gulf Coast” style with bright colors, generous porches, and colonial columns.
