McAdoo Hotel Restoration

45 units | Shreveport, LA | 2014

Originally the Yorke Hotel, built circa 1910, this 3-story load bearing masonry structure is located in the St. Paul’s Historic District of Shreveport.  SGB Architects collaborated with the Louisiana Department of Historic Preservation to establish a work scope accepted by the National Standards for Rehabilitation. The intricate brick detailing, with pronounced brick corbelling at the parapet top and arched openings, was carefully re-anchored, repointed, and hand cleaned.  Interior preservation efforts targeted the original wood trim of the door frames and transoms, along with the existing plaster of the exterior masonry walls. This revitalization plan maintains the existing 45 dwelling units while adding new bathroom facilities, accessibility compliance, and common lounge.
