86 units on 3.45 acres | Baton Rouge, LA | 2013
Wesley Chapel Apartments was acquired by the East Baton Rouge Housing Authority from HUD in 2000. The project needs comprised a list of health and safety concerns, including the presence of lead-based paint and friable, asbestos in ceiling textures. Security concerns center on the lack of adequate site control and defensible space as well as code concerns with fire protection systems. SGB Architects proposed a rehabilitation plan that guts all units down to the studs, abates all toxic material, and installs new energy efficient utilities. A new façade consisting of new iron work and mansard roof are designed to enhance the overall projects character while providing a safe and secure space for the community.
